Description:
Bio:
Men sings songs of her beauty while women talk of her perfect virtue, but all will agree that the Queen Mother of Taur’on is a woman not to be trifled with. The elder of Queen Caroline III’s twin daughters, Victoria was an excellent queen for her country, until her very recent retirement.
Born the 22nd of the Crane, 795, the twins Victoria and Vivian were identical in all respects, each having bright red hair and emerald green eyes which held the glow of their Eladrin father. They both possessed a wicked smile, quick wit and boisterous laughter. To the distress of their tutors, they delighted in pretending to be the other sister and would even speak in chorus. However, while they looked alike, they found their skills diverged greatly.
While Vivian (the Tomboy) climbed trees, played with swords and raced horses, Victoria (the Bookworm) studied diplomacy, educated herself on the art of politics and became a linguist beyond compare. Vivian’s favorite tools were her axes while Victoria worked with words. Clearly fate had born them in the proper order.
During their required year of military service, Vivian ran off to join a local adventuring company. Victoria remained. However, she immediately put away all of her books and spent the next few months learning combat and earning a knightly education. Most were surprised that the bookish girl would attempt such a physical endeavor. Yet, after a few months of hard work, she was the darling of the Queen’s paladins and was knighted as one of their own. It seemed there was nothing that the young woman could not achieve when she set her mind to it.
Over the next few years, many young men would vie for her hand. It was known to all that her mother, Queen Caroline, was not in good health and would probably retire her crown as soon as Victoria was old enough to assume the responsibility. Every eligible bachelor in the surrounding kingdoms worked hard to catch her eye. And while many made a friend of the Princess, none could seem to win more than that from her.
The winter of her seventeenth year, her sister returned home as she always did during the cold months. But this time, some of her adventuring friends accompanied her, including a dashing elven warrior named Adaron. Poets say that the young Princess fell for the handsome elf immediately. Others claim it took a few minutes. But, there was no doubt that the two soon became inseparable. In fact, when her sister returned to her adventuring company in the spring, Adaron stayed behind, joining the army.
That summer, after her eighteenth birthday and with the blessing of her parents, Victoria and Adaron were married. That fall her mother crowned her Queen, the second Victoria to hold the title in the Taur’on family.
In a short time the kingdom rejoiced from the news that Queen Victoria was pregnant. Much to the surprise of all, she gave birth to healthy triplet boys. But the strain on her was great; she was bedridden for many months afterwords. Clerics and healers warned her of the dangers that might occur if she attempted to bear another child. But Victoria paid them no mind. She doted on her niece, but knew that it was her duty to produce an heir of her own.
Three years later, the Queen became pregnant. Unfortunately, this time it was difficult on the children. The twins, a boy and a girl, were born a month too soon. The entire kingdom held its breath, saying prayers for the health of their little prince and princess.
It seems as if the gods heard. While never very healthy, little Conner and Caroline have grown into happy children. However, tragedy soon befell the family. The Queen Mother finally succumbed to her long illness and died when the twins were just four years of age. And then, Queen Victoria lost her husband to battle.
It is said the entire kingdom heard the Queen’s heart break, and the worst snows in history fell that winter as the Queen mourned. Many citizens wondered if grief would destroy their beloved Queen.
They had little to worry about. While the vestiges of her sorrow were still upon Victoria, she is still her wily self. A few months after her husband’s death, she was in the city of Starfall, arguing the release of a wrongfully arrested knight. That summer found her traveling to BrightHope to attend an important elven council.
And within a year, even the staff of the castle had to admit she was back to her old self, their Queen still.
Today, Victoria still keeps her head in her books and lessons. She values knowledge over force and always seeks fair resolutions to the difficult issues that crop up in her kingdom.
